The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival

This year’s festival is focusing on ‘literary giants’, some of literature’s more substantial books, and will be exploring what gives these works their power and mythical status. This includes events on Moby Dick, Middlemarch, War and Peace, The Lord of the Rings as well as A Dance to the Music of Time.

Anthony Powell’s brilliant twelve-novel sequence chronicles the lives of 300 characters, and is a unique evocation of life in 20th Century England. Its unrivalled for its scope and humour. Powell’s chosen biographer and author of the official Handbook to 'Dance', Hilary Spurling is joined by a panel of Anthony Powell admirers including author and critic DJ Taylor and British historian Richard Davenport-Hines. The panel will be chaired by Anthony Powell Society Vice-President, Patric Dickinson.
