The Anthony Powell Society is pleased to announce that the 7th international conference, dedicated to the work, life and times of Anthony Dymoke Powell, is to be held at Eton College, Powell's alma mater, on 27-29 September 2013.

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for the discussion of Powell, his life and his works. The organisers hope to attract Powell academics, enthusiasts aficionados and newcomers to his work alike.

The conference plenary sessions on Friday 27 afternoon and Saturday 28 September provide a forum for discussion of Powell’s life and works with many leading academics and literarists. Delegates will be issued with synopses of the presentations on registration at the conference and all delegates will automatically receive a copy of the proceedings when published. Saturday buffet lunch is included in the delegate fee for the plenary sessions.

On Friday evening there will be a champagne reception and recital of music of 20s & 30s from Dance by Paul Guinery. On Saturday lunchtime there will be a short tour of Eton College and an opportunity to visit the Powell collections in the College Library at the end of the day. There will be a conference dinner on the Saturday evening. On Sunday morning a visit to the nearby Tudor period Dorney Court is being arranged

The Speakers
  • DJ Taylor is well known as a literary critic, author and long-time Powell fan
  • Peter Berthoud is an award winning City of Westminster Guide and lecturer on London.
  • Patric Dickinson is Clarenceux King of Arms and a Vice-President of the Anthony Powell Society
  • Paul Guinery is a pianist and BBC Radio music presenter
  • Lord Gowrie, President of the Anthony Powell Society, was Minister for the Arts in Margaret Thatcher's administration in the 1980s.
In addition there will be papers on a wide range of Powellian topics given by both academics and Powell enthusiasts.
